PRIVACY · WHAT'S THE VIBE
Privacy policy
This is the plain-English version of how we handle your data. We're a New York-based nightlife app and we keep what we collect to the minimum needed to run the service.
What we collect
- Account info: your name and email and password (or your Apple ID name and email if you use Sign in with Apple). Username and optional display name. Optional bio.
- Location: approximate, city/neighborhood-level location, collected only when you grant permission and only "while using the app." We use it to confirm you're in a coverage area and to show nearby venues. If you join a waitlist for a city we don't cover yet, we store the approximate area with your request so we know where demand is.
- Content you post: clips (the video, the photos, and their audio), captions, line-wait and vibe reports, comments, and recaps. These are public by design — that's the product.
- Engagement & social signals: likes, saves, follows, and the venues you mark as familiar. We use these to run core features like your saved venues and who you follow.
- Usage & analytics: in-app activity such as screens you open, taps, and feature usage, collected through Google Analytics for Firebase so we can understand how the app is used, fix rough edges, and plan what to build next.
- Diagnostics & crash data: crash logs and basic performance diagnostics, collected through Firebase Crashlytics, so we can find and fix bugs and keep the app stable.
- Device data: app version, OS version, a device identifier (used to manage your signed-in devices and analytics), and a push token so we can deliver notifications you've opted into.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data. Period.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't share your data with data brokers or advertising networks.
- We don't store your password — Firebase Authentication hashes it (scrypt) and we never see plaintext.
- We don't show ads, and we don't let third parties buy promoted slots inside the feed.
Where your data lives
Account auth and profile data live in Google Firebase (US-Central region). Video clips live on Mux (a third-party CDN; their privacy policy is at mux.com/privacy). App analytics and crash diagnostics are processed by Google through Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. Push notifications route through Apple's APNs. We use these providers only to operate the app — never to advertise to you or to link your activity to other companies' data.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (see below), your profile, clips, and saved data are removed. Analytics and crash records are retained in aggregate/de-identified form for a limited period to help us improve the app, and are not used to re-identify you.
Your rights
- Delete your account: Settings → Account → delete account. This permanently and immediately removes your profile, clips, and saved data. You can also email [email protected] from your registered email if you'd prefer we do it for you.
- Export your data: email the same address and ask. We'll send a JSON dump of your account, posts, and engagement.
- Access, correct, or object: wherever you live, you can email us to ask what we hold about you, correct it, or ask us to stop a particular use. We honor these requests regardless of your region (including rights under laws like the GDPR and CCPA).
- Block someone: tap the ⋯ menu on any clip → block. They won't see your activity and you won't see theirs.
- Report content: same menu, "report." Goes to a moderation queue we review within 24 hours.
Children
What's The Vibe is for adults 21+ (it's a nightlife app — most content involves alcohol or 21+ venues). We gate sign-up behind a date-of-birth check and don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 21. If you believe an underage user has signed up, email [email protected] and we'll close the account.
